Mini Course IV. Institutional Advocacy & Culture Change

Mini Course Information

Ryan Program faculty, residents, graduates, and providers of obstetrics and gynecology at all levels of practice navigate state laws and legislative proposals that restrict access to contraception and abortion care.  Physicians must reconcile best practices for patient care with formal and informal hospital policies. This often requires creativity to maintain and expand family planning training and services (particularly in settings where abortion clinics have closed) and navigate legal challenges. In such settings, individual physicians and institutional advocacy serve as catalysts for culture change within institutions. The physician advocate is therefore critical to ensuring continued access to family planning training and care. This mini course offers strategies to approach and navigate difficult situations, build community, and create culture change within institutions and practice groups.
