MED CLIN 530 will engage students in a self-directed virtual course in topics pertaining to reproductive health. Topics covered include contraception, family planning, spontaneous abortion/pregnancy loss, induced abortion care, and health equity. Content is largely from Innovating Education in Reproductive Health as well as Williams Gynecology textbook, APGO Basic Science Videos, the Global Health Learning Center, and modules from Columbia University. Viewpoints express in this content do not necessary reflect the viewpoints of the Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine-Washington State University or the course director.

Course Learning Objectives

1. Describe the contraceptive methods currently available and understand how to counsel patients for contraception using shared decision making

2. Define sex and gender and recognize how reproductive care varies in populations including transgender, gender-nonconforming, gender-diverse patients as well as patients with intersex traits

3. Understand the framework for pregnancy options counseling.

4. Describe the evaluation, diagnosis, and management options for pregnancy loss and induced abortion in the first and second trimesters.

5. Discuss the history of abortion and issues related to access, both in the United States and in a global context.

6. Describe how a history of oppression contributes to health inequities and ways to center a justice framework and structural analysis as a tool to promote optimal health outcomes.
