The purpose of this curriculum is to teach the essential clinical knowledge, technical skills, sociopolitical contexts, and evidence-based counseling practices required in patient-centered abortion care.
The course includes four required modules. At the end of each module, there is a short quiz to check your learning and additional resources that you may explore if you choose. Part 2 includes resources to prepare you for an in-person abortion simulation workshop. The last component is the post-curriculum survey at the end of the course to test your knowledge, share your feedback, and help us make this resource as valuable as possible for future learners.
Course Development & Description
The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG), recognizing the critical need for essentials of abortion care education in the aftermath of the catastrophic decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, has collaborated with the Council on Resident Education in Obstetrics and Gynecology (CREOG), Innovating Education in Reproductive Health (IERH), and the Kenneth J. Ryan Residency Training Program in Abortion and Family Planning (Ryan Program) to launch an abortion care curriculum available to obstetrics and gynecology residents and residency programs across the United States.
Many lectures in the abortion course can be viewed with subtitles in Spanish or French. French translation was made possible by the Safe Abortion Action Fund and International Planned Parenthood Federation. Click the Closed Captions button on video lectures to access subtitles.
IERH acknowledges the importance of inclusive language as a component of patient-centered care and we are working to improve our content. Read more here.
